Why do I need an E-911 Address?
An E911 Address helps emergency services locate residents in an emergency . A faster response time can make a significant difference in survival and degree of recovery. A E911 address is also often required for phone service, building permits, drivers license renewal, land titles, loans, mail delivery, insurance and for other purposes requiring a site location.
What is an E-911 Address?
An E911 address is a site location address assigned using a standardized mileage measurement system that is accurate to 1/100 of a mile to a driveway or residence on a named road. Measurements start at the south or west end of a road with driveway/residence on the left side of the road being assigned odd numbers and driveways/residence on the right side of the road being assigned even numbers
People placing emergency calls often have difficulty providing their addresses. Children, visitors, hearing or speech impaired callers, or callers in a life treating situation may not be able to provide address information to dispatcher. E911 automatically gives dispatchers the address allowing them to send the appropriate fire, medical or law enforcement personnel even if he caller is unable to communicate.
