Disposing of your household garbage can be handled one of two ways - taking your trash to a local transfer station or hiring a local solid waste hauler.
Otsego County belongs to a three county solid waste authority known as MOSA - the Montgomery-Otsego-Schoharie Authority. MOSA operates two solid waste transfer stations in Otsego County.
The Southern Transfer Station is located near Oneonta, at I-88 Exit 13 on Silas Lane and is open Monday-Saturday from 7am - 3pm. Call (607) 432-9540.
The Northern Transfer Statation is located one mile north of Cooperstown on NYS Rt. 28 and is open for residents Monday through Saturdays from 7:00am - 3:00pm. Commerial haulers are accepted Monday through Friday. Call (607) 547-5967. Click here for the rules for the Norther Transfer Station.
Additionally, several towns in the county have a station at which a local trash hauler is set up once or twice a week to receive bags of garbage for a fee. See the link to "Drop-off Centers" for more details about this local garbage service.
Local haulers provide varying levels of solid waste services. See the link to the current list of haulers.
