Animal Preparedness

Disaster preparedness is important for all animals, but it is particularly important for livestock/horses because of the animals' size and their shelter and transportation needs.

Pets are an integral part of American society and economy; more than half of households in the United States include pets.  During times of disaster, people will risk their lives and the lives of others to save pets.  For these reasons, it is critical that individuals have the “know how” to properly prepare themselves and their animals for disasters to save both human and animal lives.

Disasters can happen anywhere and can take many different forms, from barn fires to hazardous materials spills to propane line explosions, and train derailments—all of which may necessitate evacuation. It is imperative that you are prepared.
