The New York State Department of Health has made arrangements to analyze water samples for coliform bacteria from private wells directly impacted by flood waters. In order to be eligible for this service which will be provided at no cost to the homeowner, there must have been a direct impact to the homeowner’s water supply.
Please advise all homeowners who are requesting this sample service that the water system must be disinfected in accordance with the attached procedures at least 48 hours prior to collecting the sample.
The water samples must be collected (bottles filled) by the homeowner during the morning of Tuesday July 11. The water sample bottles must then be delivered to your office by noon on Tuesday (July 11) so they can be picked up by Health Department staff that afternoon for delivery to the laboratory.
Remember, for a private homeowner to be eligible for this sampling service, the following impacts to the well must have occurred:
· Flood water was over the top of the well casing OR water from the well was/is dirty or cloudy after the flood water receded.
· The well has been inspected for damage and repaired, if needed.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation. Staff from this office are available to answer any questions and provide technical assistance.
